If you’re looking for a book to aid in teaching phonics in a primary/early years setting, whether school-based or home-learning, this could be a useful resource for you. Created by Canberra educator, Kathy Weeden, as an adjunct to learning the alphabet by exploring the 44 phonemes used in the English language. With a rhyming text and knock-out graphic art style illustrations, a teacher would be well placed to use this as an ongoing teaching tool, and keep returning to it at appropriate times. As I’ve never seen the phonemes introduced in a literary style, this is a first, and while, at times, I found it a little too contrived, there’s no doubt you would find it useful in your infants classroom in particular. No doubt the teaching notes will be appreciated as well. Recommended for early learners from around 4/5 years upwards.
