This is the second in this stunning series from talented couple Mark Greenwood & Frane Lessac. I have previously reviewed the first (twice! hardback and paperback!) Ancient Wonders and I know that many people took that first title to their hearts.
In this new book, readers traverse our country through thousands of years and visit the sites of various historical happenings. From the traditional owners leaving their mark in rock art and the built fish traps of Brewarrina, through the earliest European travellers as long ago as the 15th century, onwards to the footfall of the English and thence to significant events of the past 200 or so years, of import to both non-Indigenous and First Australian peoples.
Whether it is of social or political or geographic importance, the authors have narrowed down a selection of moments of real consequence in our shared timeline. As with the earlier book, the text combines narrative non-fiction, factual prose and an almost poetical thread throughout. And, it goes without saying, Frane’s artwork is just sensational as always.
The end papers (each unique) are a masterful addition to the content. It’s no secret that I love the work of this partnership and this is certainly no exception. Once again, this is a must-have for your collection. The potential it has for deep learning in your classroom from around Year 3 to Year 6 is unlimited. I feel like I am saying this for every review of late but I have to remark again. I know that many people will have their budgets closed off by now, but please do yourself a favour and put this on your orders list. You will have no regrets.
Highly recommended for readers from around 9 years upwards.
