I thoroughly enjoyed Einstein’s first outing, and enjoyed this second one just as much, particularly as it is often a challenge finding that next book for readers moving on from the easy chapter books to something with a little more substance and length.
Ever since Imogen’s and Arthur’s first adventure with Einstein, and his subsequent return to Australia, they have missed him terribly. So when a chance encounter which would mean a return to London for their flightless friend comes along, they are keen to take it up.
But – and there’s a big but – their former nemesis, ersatz detective Bill Hunter, has his own nefarious agenda to pursue, and none of it bodes well for Einstein and his penguin pal, Isaac. Once again, amateur detective, and passionate penguin protector Imogen is galvanised into action, and takes younger brother Arthur along as her sidekick.
This is just as amusing, adventurous and action-packed as the first book with a splendidly robust plot and characterisations, particularly the children protagonists and the delightfully nasty but also quite stupid villain (and his mum). It’s another great book for your kiddos from around 7 years upwards who are further along in their independent reading journey, and champing for more bang for their buck, so to speak. The occasional illustrations from David Tazzyman add to the fun as well.
🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧 and cheers for Einstein and crew!
