November is Picture Book Month, a tribute to the enduring importance of the picture book form. Dianne de Las Casas (author & storyteller) and her team co-founded the month-long celebration to champion the power and beauty of picture books. There are many people trying to keep the event active, following the loss of its founder. Certainly, I will continue to make my Novembers Picture Book Months.
In this digital age where people are predicting the coming death of print books, picture books (the print kind) need love. And the world needs picture books. There’s nothing like the physical page turn of a beautifully crafted picture book.
Picture Book Month is celebrated to honor the importance of picture books and the magic of storytelling. The Children’s Book Council co-founded the month-long celebration to champion the power of picture books.
Here are some ways to celebrate Picture Book Month:
Read together: Snuggle up with your child and read your favorite picture books.
Introduce poetry: Introduce children to poetry through picture books.
Help children explore emotions: Use picture books to help children explore emotions and build empathy.
Learn about the world: Use picture books to help children learn about the world.
Recommend books: Share recommendations for picture books with others.
