What if? always such a good provocation for writing … Plenty of children have wondered what if Santa got stuck in a chimney, but what if he got stuck in a gum tree?
Well, how could he be rescued? This could be the start of a thoroughly delightful session of work coming up with ingenious problem-solving and perhaps even some engineering activities to construct something that might help – somewhat cherry-picker style.
Whatever activities flow on from this, there’s bound to be much giggling over Santa’s predicament, especially when he loses his trousers! Jackie Hosking has become known for her rhyming books, which children always find entertaining and this one will also delight them.
Nathaniel Eckstrom’s illustrations are quirky and his renditions of the various animals give them an endearing quality. I also particularly like the way he has suggested Santa’s movement during his unfortunate mishap.
A lot of fun and definitely one that Smalls from around Prep to Year 3 will enjoy. A 4 ๐๐๐๐ rating for a fun take on Santa’s delivery run.
