Last year I was lucky enough to be asked to write a little book about The Roulettes for an American publisher [The Creative Company] of educational and children’s titles. This is to be part of a series called High Flyers, featuring aerobatic teams from around the world. It was quite challenging due to aspects like word count and reading level but really jolly good fun!
It was also quite special because of personal connections – obviously, my Father Bear’s RAF service in Lancasters but also my good friend (we were at school together) Diana’s late brother. Steve was one of the only two pilots (ever) killed in a Roulettes crash, back in the 80s – a truly tragic incident that was a profound loss to all .
The series is due for release in the company’s fall list, so only a few weeks away now. I haven’t seen the cover yet, but I have seen a design layout which is pretty exciting. Here are some peeks at it! To the best of my knowledge, there hasn’t been a book written about the Roulettes and while this is a US publication/release, it would be possible to order from the company if you feel this is something of interest for your kiddos.
The most exciting part is that I’ve been asked to write four more books, again about planes (this time fighter jets) for lower level and the time frame is quite tight, so I’m taking a little break from blog posts, after NAIDOC week, just for a couple of weeks to knock that over.
