Not only did this arrive in timely fashion to be included in the fishyness scheme of reviews, but also in the same week as I rediscovered some memories on an old USB including just one from my pirate wedding [yes, you did read that correctly!].

Almost 40 years on and this delightful love story for Smalls, with a strong female protagonist and an unlikely suitor still makes for fun reading – and lively discussion afterwards.
The fierce little woman who lives in a house that is the perfect place to be, I think, is always busy, knitting socks for poor sailors without any, fishing through the trapdoor in the floor and playing the bagpipes just because it’s a great thing to do.
When a wicked pirate comes knocking on her door and tapping at her window and thumping on her trapdoor demanding to come in, she knows exactly how to deal with him. But that wicked pirate turns out to be not really so wicked but extremely scared of the dark, her softer side is shown.
It’s a little seaside fairy tale all of its own, and in my experience, children have always loved it. It’s always such a true testament of a book’s worth when it becomes multi-generational and so many of Joy Cowley’s titles have proven this. What a gift to children’s literacy and literature she has been. It is surely time you updated your copy so get your hands on this one – you won’t regret it at all, and your kiddos will thank you for it.
It’s a pirate wench’s 5 ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ rating for this one and with perfect timing for Talk Like a Pirate Day too!
