Picture Book Month has long been celebrated in November, and though in many locations it is now marked in other months, here at Just So Stories I still dedicate this month to the joy and wonder of picture books – if it’s good enough for the Carnegie Library, it’s good enough for me, thank you very much.
As I have said often, I love picture books. I’ve used them with all my reading audiences from 3 year olds to adults with equal success and engagement. It is utterly amazing how, for example, a class of sweaty, sporty year 10 boys can be rendered still and reflective simply by sharing a significant picture book.
My own love of this genre was just one reason I was so delighted to write resources to support The Grown-up’s Guide to Picture Books. And also, the pleasure I’ve had creating resources for many picture books, most recently for Jackie French’s The Drought Kangaroo (review imminent!).
Currently, I reckon I have at least 60 PBs waiting patiently for their reviews to be written, so let’s see how many I can get through this month. Enjoy!!
