I’m not sure if Inda created this based on the ‘rabbit in the moon’ idea. I know one of my girls always talked about the moon rabbit – that is she saw the crater shadows on the moon as a reclining rabbit. I also know that the moon rabbit (also known as the Jade rabbit or moon hare) is a mythical character in cultures such as South-East Asia. But it does seem conceivable to me, although perhaps it has nothing to do with it.
This is a fairly simple rhyming bedtime story, which sees Little Rabbit just not tired enough to go to sleep like so many children who are still wound up from their day. So it’s playtime with a very special friend until eventually the night draws to a close. By then it’s the sleepy moon that is ready to sleep. Shuffling Rabbit off to bed, the dawn is just around the corner, as the little rabbits are all snuggled together in bed. It’s very gentle and playful, and a nicely soothing story to lull little ones off to sleep. The illustrations from Claire Wee, whose work is new to me, are charming. I’m giving it a 3 hopping 3 🐇🐇🐇 bunny emoji for Smalls from toddler to about 4 years old.
