It does not matter if you don’t celebrate Easter in a religious sense, this is still a book that is most definitely worth sharing with Smalls as it does explain the ‘why’ of Easter, and it does it in a purely narrative manner.
Retelling the Bible story in a very simple and accessible way with only the mention of angels and the image of the cross being a nod to the Christian viewpoint, so from that point of view, this will sit equally comfortably with both secular and faith schools, as well as families looking for a seasonal book.
As well, need I say, it’s Jess Racklyeft’s unmistakable and always superior handiwork, and for that alone it is worth the read. I include some sneak peeks for your viewing pleasure, but my fave is definitely the assembled friends and family sitting around the table, clearly culturally diverse, and with the black cat sitting on her chair – as would our own Whiskers aka the Demon Spawn. And the endpapers!!! Just delightful ❤️.
Despite being a Buddhist for over 30 years, I reckon this the pick of this year’s crop of Easter titles, and this is such a worthy addition to your seasonal collection for Smalls from Prep up to around Year 3 easily. It gets a joyful 5 ⛪✝️🐇🍫🐣 rating and I wish you all a very happy Easter, no matter how you mark it.
