Spikes on the bottom boots,
my favourite colour boots,
making me too deadly.

Watch it being read here on ABC Education – a fantastic read-aloud with added insights from narrator Shelley Ware.

No doubt about it – getting new footy boots is a big deal. When you’ve saved and bought them yourself, they are just an enormous deal. Find out how the deadly boots can make this young jarjum burst with pride and confidence. This is a book about pride and resilience, family and community, and respect for self and for others. Oh, and it’s also about those exciting boots!

Even my youngest children to whom I read this, completely understood the page with the suspicious police officer. This provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the gulf between the two worlds of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait kids and the ways in which they are treated.

This gets a huge 5 star rating from me – it’s deadly as!
