Honestly, the kiddos go nuts for Mo’s books – which you probably already know. This one is my absolute favourite of all and I have used it several times. This past week I’ve been back in my happy place being teacher-librarian for a one week contract, ironically in the local school where I was formerly the t-l, until EQ did the dirty on me. As it was Bastille Day, and I had carte blanche with my programming, I chose to go very French (used this one for P-2, Mr Chicken Goes to Paris for 3/4 and This is Paris for 5/6 – see my outline in the Freebies page). Once again the little ones ate this hilarious tongue-twister up as though it were a fresh baguette that is warm and smells wonderful *wink*. As an adult, I love the subtle humour of the characters being frogs – and Nanette being framed in one scene by red/white/blue windows. Mo’s gorgeous handcrafted paper model village for the illustrations is just a delight and the kiddos loved the quick time-lapse clip of his making of it.
For the Preppies I had a rhyming activity with ‘et’ words in baguettes (free printable from Primary Playground) and 1/2s made popstick puppets of Nanette and the baguette for a retell at home. They all loved the activity and the laughs. I really don’t know why I don’t have my own copy of this (instead of having to source one from the library every time!!). If you don’t have it on your shelves, ‘crack’ on and grab one – it’s as warm and tasty as a freshly baked baguette!!
