This is an alphabet book with a difference. It is actually an extended affirmation for your kiddos, and will give them much to think about, as well as opening up lots of conversations.
Just flick through the slideshow to see some of the positive text and Lucia’s (as always) exquisite illustrations. With strong messages about being true to themselves, that being different is ok, being curious and questioning, but also caring and compassionate, this is a book that will prove valuable to many educators and parents.
We are all striving to raise good humans. As we make observations of the societal behaviours around us, we know that this is more important than ever. In our own small ways, we can both demonstrate this, and also share such books with our Smalls, inviting them to grow their own personalities to become strong, independent thinkers who are also cognisant of the importance of true regard for others and for our planet.
There are some useful detailed teaching notes to accompany this book, and as Tracey’s debut title, the backstory for her inspiration is well worth reading. Having spent her entire life, but particularly the past almost nine years, doing everything possible to empower The Kid in just these ways, I believe this to be one of the most important books you will present to your young readers.
Both beautiful and meaningful, what a combination! Highly recommended for your Littles (or even Biggers) from around Year 1 upwards.
