This is absolutely beautiful! The illustrations for this gorgeous bilingual book will knock your socks off.
We are beginning to see and use many First Nations seasonal calendars e.g. from CSIRO as more and more are researched and developed. This one outlines the signs of the changing seasons on Noongar Country and children, whether on that locality or not, will love to make connections with their own experiences.
The indicators might be the winds or the flowers appearing, it could be whales passing by or ‘roos and possums with joeys, or it might be magpie swooping time and being able to see the Emu in the Sky.
Children will be able to learn words in Noongar, with a useful glossary included and, even better, scan the QR code to hear the story read and be able to hear the pronunciation of the words in language.
Whether mob or ally, you won’t be able to help being impressed by this pair of creators, and no matter whose Country you live and work on, it will be a marvellous springboard to correlating the European four seasons to those traditional to your own geographical location, and marking identifiers that provide the knowledge of the changes.
