‘Rundell’s pen is gold-tipped’ – Sunday Times

As much as I love Katherine Rundell’s writing, I was completely unaware of this little gem, until I saw this new edition in Quick Brown Fox a couple of weeks ago and HAD to have it – of course!
This beautiful little book fits neatly in your hand, not much bigger than palm-sized and is an essay of less than 70 little pages. Like all of Katherine’s fiction, it is superbly articulated as the reader is taken by the hand on a journey of the wonder of rediscovering children’s literature, and why that is important – not just for the sake of our children, or students, but for our own enrichment.
As I currently have at least 100 review books piled up and more arrive each day, it’s a rare occasion that I actually buy a book these days. It has to be something not only worth reading, but worth keeping and re-reading. That goes without saying for Katherine’s work but I especially love this.
And, I know I’m not alone. After mentioning it on social media, I have had several author friends particularly comment on how resonant it is for them. One who keeps it on her bedside table and regularly soothes herself with reading it at the end of a long day.
Don’t hesitate. Buy it for yourself and buy it for others. I know I’m intending to gift a copy to a friend I know will love it, for her Xmas present. I can’t tell you how highly I rate it but it’s without doubt a 5 🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉rating for all wise grown-ups. Working on being successful with a Q&A with Katherine so keep your eyes out for that coup if it comes off! EDIT: Missed it by 🤏 much – unfortunately, after her US tour and now back to work in her ‘real’ job, writing the third book and also starting work on the screen play, Katherine is unable to undertake any interviews. BUT we still love her – right?
