There have been a few books for younger readers which feature assistance dogs of various types, but this one is quite a comprehensive overview. And I certainly learned about a couple of examples, of which I was previously unaware.
I haven’t been to the Opera House forecourt for about 5 or 6 years, but I definitely didn’t see Albie the Seagull Chaser Dog then. And I’ve never been to Japan, but I had never heard of Ken-Kun the Business Dog, selling sweet potatoes from his stall – nor would I have imagined such a thing!
I did, however, know about the Water Rescue Dogs – I keep telling The Kid and her SLS club they need to recruit at least one! Also, the Aussie dogs helping with koala rescue, and penguin protection as well as those who visit schools and hospitals.
Your kiddos will love reading and hearing about all these dozen or so clever canines – and, no doubt, will be wildly enthusiastic to talk about their own clever hounds. This is really interesting as well as fun and look, it’s dogs – you know, you’re always ahead of the game with a good dog book! Love Max’ work and this is another fabulous example – good dog! I mean, good creator π.
A barking, tail-wagging 5 πΆπΆπΆπΆπΆ for readers from around Prep to year 4.
