Correct again! Not a Xmas book but a damned fine gift for someone – especially that hard to buy for Dad/Grandpa/Activist Aunty or other politically aware person in your fold.
As well, I think this makes an excellent addition to any library collection for use in Media Studies, Graphic Art, Visual Literacy and related topics. I don’t read newspapers and haven’t for many years. We even stopped holding them in the school libraries years ago. Although, I do read the Guardian and I was familiar with First Dog on the Moon (one of the featured artists in this compilation).
But this year I made a new friend, the über talented Sean Leahy [waves to Sean 👋], who happens to be, amongst his many talents, a political cartoonist par excellence. So, how could I resist requesting this?
Political cartoons are one of the few media items of which I take note because, in their essence, they get right to the heart of any current issue. This is a collection from over 30 talented creators from across the country, along with quotes from all sides of the craziness they capture in images, introduced in an articulate and, to my mind, spot on reflection on this year of more bizarre, distressing and unbelievable events, actions, people and downright crap than I have ever witnessed in my lifetime, that’s for certain.
I’ve lost a generous amount of my last two days meandering through this collection with many snort laughs, as well as much gritting of teeth and hissing ‘yessssss!’ at various very accurate representations of some of the walking evil currently burdening and destroying the world.
It’s easily the sort of book an individual can just pick up at random moments, and browse through a few pages at a time. But certainly, as I mentioned earlier, I see this a highly valuable addition to your collection for a number of relevant studies. It definitely gets my vote as a worthy purchase for either family or collection and it gets a 5 📰📰📰📰📰rating from me for general reading from senior students to adult.
