Any of us who have taught Smalls always appreciate a useful ‘maths’ themed picture book. This one doubles as a timely introduction to the concept that we are all connected as humans, in one way or another.
The maths aspect is certainly a fact – nodes, networks, circuits, spanning trees – but realistically this is not a mathematical topic one covers with little peeps. That being said, I have no doubt it would be a fun activity after reading for your little readers to construct their own networks of family, friends, neighbours etc.
What is absolutely the most worthwhile purpose of sharing this book, especially in these troubled times, is to underline our ‘sameness’ rather than our differences. Always amazing that children seem to have no trouble with this but there is that sector of adults who maintain that different is somehow the cause of all troubles.
A good talking point for that alone. I am giving it a 3 🧮📈🧠rating for kiddos from around Year 1 to Year 4.
