I know many of you, along with kiddos, have enjoyed this series from Carl and Hakea, in conjunction with players from the ALF footy factory of the Kimberley, and I appreciate those of you who have commented on the reviews and the resources for the first one.

It’s a great series on so many levels. It appeals to those readers who love the game, the text format and style and many illos make them accessible and enjoyable for even those not-so-confident or reluctant readers and, the fact that they feature real players for whom many have fan fervour.

And, along with all that, readers will learn more about life in the Kimberley, First Nations family and culture and be able to develop their social consciousness around some of the difficulties and inequities for First Nations peoples. Carl, Hakea and Ash have put together another terrific insight into a player’s journey from kick-about in the remoteness of the Kimberley to the headlines of ALF big league, and Samantha’s illustrations once again add interest with style.

I’m far from being an AFL aficionado – everyone knows I’m NRL and Dragons all the way! – but I am really enjoying this series, finding out more about the game, the players and their Kimberley home. A quick read for many but just so enjoyable and filled with learning by absorption – wonderful! It’s another boomer 5 🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉rating for readers from about 8 upwards.
