My delight in R. A. Spratt’s books is well known and no matter if it’s Friday, Nanny Piggins, the Peskis or any others of her wide-ranging titles, I am always eager to pick them up and never fail to be both entertained and to snort laugh.
Friday Barnes has proven her solid fan base as the original series expanded into another slew of titles and as Friday has aged from the gawky kid into the gawky teen, with only moderate modifications to her very unique personality.
From her first foray into school and being thrown into a social mix for which she has had no preparation to near-adulthood and currently living in New York, and officially not-officially with her almost/not quite boyfriend and former nemesis, Ian, Friday continues her adeptness to analyse situations and mysteries and come up with the goods.
The readers who have grown alongside Friday will love this new slant on her with all the added insecurities she has piled onto her long-standing ones – what should she wear? why is she feeling like this? does Ian not care for her? and so it goes.
There’s nothing quite like having the real Prince of Denmark making a guest appearance in a Broadway production of Hamlet, but Friday’s brush – or kiss- with said Prince, which made front-page news has everyone in a spin, including Ian. And when the famous Danish Crown Jewel is swiped and the preening actor playing Hamlet is stabbed, it’s a baffling case all round. Not so much for Friday, although it does have its moments
. Honestly, it’s another great foray into Friday’s world which often exceeds her own previous bounds of eccentricity, much to the delight of her readers. Get with it – I’m not sure if there will be more or not but I can tell you for certain, that those long-time Friday fans will continue to read her antics long into their university and beyond days!
It’s another snaughling 5 π΅π»ββοΈπ΅π»ββοΈπ΅π»ββοΈπ΅π»ββοΈπ΅π»ββοΈ for middle-grade and onwards.
