Once again the talented Katrina Germein has switched up a traditional rhyme to create an outrageously fun read for Smalls. It’s full of surprises and especially the ending! The animals are on their way to Wolf’s house for dinner. Wait a minute! Is that REALLY a good idea? I mean to say, wolves are not known for their vegetarian tendencies and small mammals are a favourite on their foods list aren’t they? And a small shrew seems to think the same way as it calls out repeated warnings.
But regardless, the animals press on and asking ‘What’s the time…?’ . Meanwhile, Ms Wolf is busying herself in her kitchen with quite a gleam in her eye. Surely she’s not?………hmmm, maybe she is? Your Smalls will have the most hilarious responses to this delightful and perfectly cadenced rhyming story I predict and especially enjoy the twist in the tail.
Kooky Chooky’s illustrations are just terrific. The contrast of size between Wolf and other animals is particularly well done so that readers will totally grasp the import of that and the final page with the expressions of the assorted animals is filled with excitement. LOVE the final endpaper with the map showing the neighbourhood and route to Wolf’s house.
This one is a cracker! and whether for pure fun or to complement a fairytale/nursery rhyme UoI – particularly the fractured sort, it’s a winner!! It’s paws down a 5 πΊπΊπΊπΊπΊfrom me for readers from Prep upwards.
