There’ll be a lot of fun to be had from this one, particularly from Katrin Dreiling’s terrific illustrations which will have kiddos in fits of laughter, I guarantee. The urge to start drawing their own monsters will soon follow any reading as well.
It’s another of Jackie Hosking’s rhyming books and no doubt, kids will appreciate the rhythm of it but it is very likely the visuals that will have the most appeal with this one I would predict.
It’s a rhyming romp take on Monsters Inc. really. A way to persuade young readers that there are no monsters lurking in shadowy corners. Though I have to admit,that most of the Smalls I’ve encountered in recent years do not share this worry. In fact, they all seem to relish the very thought of monsters, spookiness, gruesome tales and general creepiness.
I think we’ve moved a long way from the ones that had an imagination that didn’t cope well with those kind of darker thoughts – but I suppose there may be some around, although I think maybe they’d be those not yet at school so perhaps the best fit for this one would be EC or daycare centres or your toddlers at home. That being said, as above, it would be fun to read and have the kids draw their own monsters.
But sorry, not sorry, it made me think of this recent Forest Fr1ends meme and laugh. Give it a whirl and see how it goes. I’m giving it a 3 👹👹👹for younger readers.
