Whether your kiddos have seen Tilly’s New Broom or not, this will be a hit and has a strong message for Smalls who may not always get new things right the first time. We are forever talking about growth mindset and sometimes I think the kids just think it only applies to stuff like number facts or spelling. Of course, it applies to many things in life and persistence and trying again are important. Luckily, it is is also those that Tilly does well.
When she accidentally makes Sootie a GIANT cat, and the furniture and crockery starts flying around, it looks like she’s a disastrous spell maker but when she has a crack at another spell, the magic works exactly the right way – whew!! Having a cat bigger than your dragon could be a bit worrisome really.
This is another jaunty rhyming book that your Smalls will enjoy and will offer some good talking points as well. What might have happened if the second spell didn’t work? Would/should Tilly try again? Might she get some help from someone or somewhere? These are just some ideas popping into my head like the bubbles popping out of Tilly’s cauldron.
Pretty sure that by next Halloween, Tilly will be waving that wand with supreme confidence. She’s got her broom sorted and now she’s got her spell-weaving under control – what will be the next challenge?
I’m very excited that we have a brand new ‘witchy’ emporium in Redcliffe [where I’ve already spent some hard-earned dollars] and there will be spell workshops! I am beyond happy and I will be very sure to follow Tilly’s example.
A truly delightful new one from Mary Anastasiou and the very lively illos from Giorgia Clerico are a perfect match. It’s a whizz-fizzing 4 🪄🪄🪄🪄for readers from around EC to Year 3.
