Yes, it has taken a while to get to this one but what better book to kick off this year’s Picture Book month than one that is a message of love to the beach – given we live a 3-minute walk from ours and the fact that we also spent a glorious week in Vanuatu where the tropical waters, beaches, snorkelling and marine life was just sensational.
This delightful rhyming book fully encapsulates that vibe as well as that of our own Australian beaches from the wild exhilirating surf of Bells to the gentle calm of our own bay.
Jacinta Boyd brings her triple-threat combo of teaching, design and illustrating to this one which will be a perfect accompaniment to those UoI on Australia geography/landmarks as well as the introduction to summer – especially holidays, with reminders of safety and being sensible in HPE. Spark some creative writing with your kiddos whether they know the beach or would like to know it and have them illustrate in their own vibrant style. Older ones can certainly attempt some rhyme for their efforts.
And, of course, it would be a real hit as a stocking stuffer for the whole Xmas at the beach especially. I’m happily giving it a real beach-lover 5 🥥🌴🌺🌅🌊 rating for Smalls as young as 3 easily up to mid-primary.
