Anyone with more than one child has been there. When a sibling squabble escalates into the 100 Days War within a matter of minutes. Tempers flare faster than a bushfire in January and it seems that no matter of peace talks are helping. But just sometimes, the kiddos themselves can calm their own little farms and get back on track.

This sweet book shows just that and there’s no doubt that most Smalls will be able to relate to it and have a fund of anecdotes to share about ‘that time when my big sister did…’ or ‘my little brother ON PURPOSE did….’.

I particularly love the illustrations and the random crayon scribbles which underline the starting point of the whole conflagration. I also love the sly comment on Mum making the BIG coffee [it was probably wine, just saying....] and, again, I have no doubt that kiddos will have input on how their own mother copes with these in-house battlegrounds [probably wine, just saying!!].

And, of course, for slightly older readers there’s that intro into idioms with ‘I see red’ – it could well be a useful intro to creating a list of other ‘colour’ idioms to use in their own writing.

Have some fun with this one whether for the Smalls as part of their EI sessions or older ones as a spark to extend their figurative language skills. I think it’s a very rosy 5 😡🧨❤️🔴🌹rating from me for Smalls from EC upwards.
