Oh LOOK!!! it’s a picture book that’s just pure fun!! I just love Jonathan’s work and he’s such a thoroughly nice guy as well. And this new one is absolutely a joyful romp that kiddos will love.
Utter nonsense, lots of rhymes [can already see some snappy shout outs building word families!], wonderful refrains that will have your audience joining in with gusto, an adorable doggo and Jonathan’s always gorgeous illustrations. What’s not to love? I’ve yet to meet a kid who didn’t love a good doggy book – whether they own a pooch or not. And Jack has the cutest expression – and those eyebrows!!
Jack’s practice of bringing back odd things (and never the stick that’s thrown for him!) reminds me of my much loved dalmation, Lucille, of many years ago (about 50!!EEEKKKK!) who would happily roam the neighbourhood in our country town and bring back so many random things – odd shoes of course, doormats, someone’s battered fedora (long before they were a fashion accessory). I was forever going around trying to restore the items to their rightful owners, all of whom thankfully found it quite amusing! At least she never brought back such eccentric things as Jack manages to find!!
What a fabulous book for Smalls this is and if you are already looking ahead to the start of a new year with them, this would be a great introduction – maybe your incoming Preps on their visit? I think it would be a perfect choice with lots of engagement and action.
