I always expect excellence from Andrew Plant and he has not disappointed me with this one. It is the pick of this crop from CSIRO Publishing. We all know how the Smalls and not-so-Smalls go for dinosaurs and when it’s our very own dinosaurs, it’s even more thrilling. For us in Queensland, these really are our very own. and one of these days I hope to go visit the setting, at the former Eromanga sea.
This narrative non-fiction prose traces the actions of Ferrodraco a protective and diligent mother pterosaurs, along with her mate and flaplings. Swept out to sea while hunting she has to work her way back to her young. Along the way she passes many of our Australian species.
It’s a bird’s-eye – sorry, pterosaur-eye view of some amazing animals which will thrill your readers. And the relief when Ferrodraco makes it safely home to mate and offspring is welcome indeed.
The book concludes with several pages of solid straightforward information a glossary and a note from Andrew on his research which finishes with “put all the information together and tried to create pictures that are not only accurate, but fun to look at. I hope it worked!’ It sure did, Andrew. Top marks for this one and it’s an unreserved huge 5 [no pterosaurs of course] π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦rating for independent readers from around 6/7 upwards.
