This is a sweet little book that is both gentle and thoughtful, probably more suited to your older Smalls. When Fen finds a mysterious and beautiful shiny thing she wonders what might be inside. The possibilities are endless in her imagination. But when she gets a little too impatient and accidentally breaks the shiny thing, only to discover it was empty, she is very downcast. But her father, with all the wisdom of some dads, suggests that it was not, in fact, empty and so she thinks about that. And as she remembers all the possibilities she had imagined, she realises that wonder and hope were inside the shiny thing all the time.

It is a provocation worth exploring as we always try to cultivate that sense of wonder in our kiddos. The whole design concept and artwork is wonderful. The abundance of white space and minimalistic art allow for the reader’s own imagination to soar.

I would suggest better suited from around Year 2 up and would certainly use it with upper primary for that encouragement of wondering as well. It’s a 5 shiny pinkish glittery πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–rating for this cutie.
